Tetsuya Sato, PhD

Dr. Tetsuya Sato is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Wichita State University. He is also the director of the Simulation, Automation Trust, and Oculomotor Laboratory (SATO LAB). He earned his Ph.D. in Human Factors Psychology from Old Dominion University in 2024.

Dr. Sato’s research program examines how humans interact with emerging technologies and translates empirical findings into innovative solutions to improve human–automation interaction and human–autonomy teaming. His work focuses on identifying factors that influence human performance, trust in automation, trust in autonomy, and visual attention allocation across domains such as surface transportation and aviation. He employs a range of methodologies including human-in-the-loop simulation, behavioral measures, and eye-tracking techniques.

 

Dr. Sato has been a member of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) since 2020. Prior to his current position, he contributed to the HFES community as a student reviewer and session co-chair at the HFES International Annual Meeting. As an academic professional, he has served as an ad hoc reviewer for peer-reviewed journals including Human Factors and the Journal of Experimental Psychology: Applied. At Wichita State University, he organized a weekly human factors colloquium series.

He played golf for more than 20 years with a best score of 68. Also, he goes to the gym to workout and watch YouTube videos.
